I love doing simple delightful and creative things that make life just a little bit sweeter. One of those things is cutting strawberries into hearts for my little family.

Strawberries are a fruit, but as a berry, they are lower in sugar than many other fruits. Strawberries are high in vitamin C, fiber among many other surprising health benefits of strawberries.

In addition, their lovely bright red color is so beautiful. There is nothing like a fresh, in-season strawberry. They are so sweet, tangy, and bright. I love them!

Strawberries are so delicious raw, straight from nature after a good rinse. But there are many recipes that are delicious with strawberries.

How to cut a strawberry into heart-shaped slices

Step 1

Clean your strawberry and pat it dry with a towel or spin it in a berry or salad spinner.

Step 2

Grasp the stem and leaves and remove them.

Step 3

At the top stem area, cut down into the strawberry at a 45-degree angle on one side. Repeat on the other side until the two slices meet at about 3/8 of an inch making a “V” shape (pictured above).

Step 4

Slice the strawberry from top to bottom with the “V” shape in the cross-section (see picture above) into 1/4 inch slices.
